For employees hired on or before August 27, 2001, the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between employee organizations' and the County allows you to use a portion of your accrued sick leave balance at the time of retirement as a cash pay-out. The balance may either be used to pay for your monthly retiree health and dental premiums until the balance is exhausted or be converted to additional service credit at retirement. Eligible employees were required to make this one-time irrevocable election in 2001. If applicable, SJCERA staff will implement your 2001 instructions when you retire.
