SJCERA Closed February 23
SJCERA's office will be closed to the public Friday, February 23. The office will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday, February 26.
3% COLA Adopted for Retirees
Eligible retired members receive an annual cost of living adjustment (COLA) based on the change (if any) in the Consumer Price Index. SJCERA's actuary has calculated the applicable COLA to be three percent (3%). SJCERA's Board of Retirement adopted the actuary's recommended COLA at its February 9, 2024 meeting. COLAs are applied to retirees' May 1 benefit payments.
SJCERA's CEO to Retire in March 2024
Chief Executive Office Johanna Shick plans to retire in March 2024 after seven years of service at SJCERA and more than 33 years of public service. Shick will continue as CEO until her retirement and will assist the Board in its search for her successor. See press release for more information.
SJCERA will Mail IRS Form 1099-R by January 31
IRS Form 1099-R reports total income paid and taxes withheld during calendar year 2023. If you received a payment from SJCERA during 2023 and do not receive your Form 1099-R by mid-February, contact us at (209) 468-2163.

With few exceptions, SJCERA retirement benefits are subject to income tax. You may make changes to your withholdings at any tine by submitting a Federal or State Withholding Certificate
SJCERA Wins Highest Honor in Financial Reporting
On January 22, 2024, the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Reporting to SJCERA for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended December 31, 2022. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in government accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment and demonstrates SJCERA's commitment to accuracy, clarity and transparency.
